This is an exciting program where babies (4 months and older), toddlers, and children up to the age of 15 are available.
This program is highly reliable, cost effective, and has consistently matched applicants with children of both genders.
Building Arizona Families’ partnering agency for our Ethiopia program is Dove Adoptions. Dove is fully licensed to operate in Ethiopia. The orphanage that we adopt out of is called the “Toukoul” orphanage located in Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia.
Approximately 300 children reside in the orphanage, ranging in age from newborn to 15 years old. The children are separated by age and are taken care of by many employees. All the children are made to feel that they are in a big family. All of the children in the Toukoul orphanage are tested for various diseases, including HIV, before submission into the orphanage.
Toukoul orphanage was established in 1989 by “SOS Enfants Ethiopie”, and approximately 1,000 children have been successfully placed out of this institution into French families. Dove Adoptions is the first American agency to come in agreement with this orphanage.
Family Requirements:
- Prospective parents need to be between 25-40 years of age to adopt an infant (flexible).
- Married couples and single women are permitted to adopt
- Other children in the home are permitted
- Income minimum: $35,000 (Flexible)
Children Available:
- Children from 4 months-15 years old are available for adoption.
- Sibling groups available, however flexibility on age is important
- The simultaneous adoption of non-related children is permitted
- All children are black having facial features specific to regional tribes
- Children reside in a privately supported orphanage
- Approximately 100 children under the age of 4 reside in the orphanage
- Health: ALL children are tested for HIV, Syphilis, and Hepatitis BEFORE referral
Program Specifics:
Steps for adoption: Paperwork is submitted, family is matched with a child and given full disclosure of information, family accepts child, court procedure occurs on behalf of the prospective parents, visa procedure is completed, and child is escorted to the U.S. either by parent(s) or escort. You will need to finalize you child’s adoption in the USA for immigration purposes.
Referred Child: Pictures, full medical and history are released to the prospective parents.
Time frame from paperwork submission to finalization: In most cases less than 12 months, however, time frame is dependent on availability of requested children.
Time frame from paperwork to referred child: Highly depends on availability of requested children; however, families requesting infants generally wait 4-5 months.
Travel: One trip to pick up child. Travel is one week in country.
Paperwork required: Home study, USCIS approval, criminal checks, medical reports, proof of residence, proof of marriage, birth certificates, and proof of employment/income.

Building Arizona Families cannot guarantee the performance of the local or foreign entities involved in the adoption process as Building Arizona Families has no direct control over either. Fees are subject to change. Prospective Adoptive Parent(s) will be notified as soon as possible about changes to the fee schedule.
