What is a Home Study?
An Adoption Home Study has three main parts, and none of them require a perfect house or a perfect life.
- All adoptive families complete criminal background checks and child abuse registry screenings.
- It’s a standard step to help ensure a safe, secure home. We walk you through every piece of paperwork.
- An Adoption Specialist will visit your home to make sure your house is in compliance with the Arizona State Adoption Codes.
- We will point out anything that needs to be changed or updated so you will have the opportunity to correct it before the second Adoption Home Study visit.
- You will answer thoughtful questions about your childhood, relationships, parenting style, motivation to adopt, and more. It’s an opportunity to reflect on the kind of parent you want to be.
Can You Provide a Secure Foundation
Raising a child takes resources, both emotional and practical. You’ll gather some documentation:
- Pay stubs, tax returns, and a basic monthly budget
- 3–5 references from non-relatives, folks who can speak to your character and your readiness to parent. You will need to provide personal references. You’ll choose 2 family members and 3 personal references (friends, coworkers, and/or mentors) who can describe your character, relationships, and the kind of parent you’ll be.
