This time of year we tend to move our focus to family and as the weather cools down we have a lot more time indoors. What a great time to cuddle up on the couch with some popcorn and watch a movie!

Here are just a few adoption family oriented movies that you and your children may enjoy.

Martian Child: A science-fiction writer, recently widowed, considers whether to adopt a hyper-imaginative 6-year-old abandoned and socially rejected boy who says he’s really from Mars. (Based on a true story)

Elf: Elf is about a baby who accidentally winds up in Santa’s toy sack. He is transported to the North Pole and raised by elves.

Ella Enchanted: The death of Ella’s mother and her father’s subsequent remarriage to a comically evil stepmother.

Hotel for Dogs: Based on a children’s book by Lois Duncan, Hotel for Dogs features two siblings who’ve suffered some serious family runaround as orphans. They secretly take in stray dogs at a vacant hotel.

Kung Fu Panda: Po the Panda finds himself chosen as the Dragon Warrior despite the fact that he is obese and a complete novice at martial arts.

Despicable Me: When a criminal mastermind uses a trio of orphan girls as pawns for a grand scheme, he finds their love is profoundly changing him for the better.

The Tigger Movie: Tigger is determined to find his family tree– all those other tiggers he imagines must be out there somewhere.

American Girl Samantha: Samantha moves in with her grandmother where Samantha becomes best friends with Nellie, the young Irish maid from next door.

Anne of Green Gables: An orphan girl, sent to an elderly brother and sister by mistake, charms her new home and community with her spirit and imagination.
