OCTOBER BABIES
Anika Just Couldn’t Parent Another Baby
You may shed a few tears as you listen to Anika’s story. Placing a baby for adoption is never easy, but placing two babies when you didn’t want to place any was so difficult for Anika. Listen as she shares a bit of her life, and tells about her son who wondered why the baby couldn’t come home to be with him. Then Anika finds herself truly alone, parenting her son and facing another unexpected pregnancy. She didn’t want to place this unborn boy for adoption, and couldn’t bring herself to make a decision until the time the baby was born. Learn about what changed her mind, and both the pain and joys of a birth mother placing children she loves into the arms of another family. Be sure to have tissue on hand.
IS IT DIFFICULT TO ADOPT?
First and foremost, the perception or notion that adopting is difficult is a hurdle that you have to overcome. When you hear stories of people saying, “Oh, I’ve been trying to adopt for years. My grandmother’s sister’s mother’s aunt’s sister, she had an experience where they took the baby back, and so-and-so knows somebody who is pregnant and we wanted to adopt that child, but it didn’t work out.” I think unfortunately, in the adoption community and in society, people focus on the negative stories. They negative stories get more attention than the positives, because the majority of adoptions are successful. If they weren’t, we wouldn’t be doing this. That’s like saying, with heart surgery, if the doctor only was successful 20% of the time, you wouldn’t be lined up to get a coronary bypass, you would find a different doctor.
