From the Desk of Kelly Rourke-Scarry, MSW
Dear Friend,
With everything going on in the world around us, sometimes it’s important to just stop and focus on what is most important. Lately I have been working on staying focused on what I have to be thankful for. I have also been thinking about just how important it is to not just think about who I am thankful for, but to be sure to tell them. You are one of the people I am grateful for.
“Feeling gratitude and not expressing it
is like wrapping a present and not giving it.”
—William Arthur Ward
Thank you for caring so deeply about the lives and futures of unborn children. Thank you for your compassion towards birth mothers in crisis who need our support so that they can courageously choose life for their babies. And, thank you for caring for adoptive parents, whose aching hearts and arms are lovingly filled through the miracle of adoption.
I remember you when I get discouraged, because there are times I really need to know that we are not in this battle alone. Some seasons are more difficult than others, and as I am sure you are aware, we are in a difficult season. The COVID-19 pandemic has had surprising impacts for unborn babies, birth mothers, and adoptive families. Keeping everyone safe and healthy, from our staff that supports the birth mothers and adoptive families to birth mothers and adoptive families we serve. It’s time consuming, but it’s important. But still, we can’t afford to lose focus on the most important work we have to do – finding birth mothers in crisis and letting them know that adoption is a wonderful option! And then, supporting courageous birth mothers through their pregnancy as they make difficult decisions on their adoption journey. And of course, supporting the wonderful adoptive families as they walk through the process of adopting their newborn baby is always our priority.
COVID-19 has slowed down the adoption process, as well as the finances we receive to provide the support birth mothers need during and after their pregnancy. And, as I mentioned last month, the summer season brings an additional set of challenges. Every summer there is a lag in adoption interest, in donations, and in volunteer hours as families go on vacations to escape the summer heat, and in many cases, focus on keeping children busy who are out of school.
Despite COVID-19 and the summer season, the need doesn’t change. Pregnant women are still in crisis, and their unborn baby’s life hangs in the balance! So many pregnant women facing unplanned pregnancies don’t even know about the support we can provide to help them give their baby the gift of life. I know you care about saving the lives of these vulnerable unborn babies, or you would not be receiving this newsletter!
Can you help us through this difficult time?
Last month, it cost us $107.14 to connect with one birth mother in crisis.
Your tax deductible gift of just $107.14 might save one unborn baby’s life!
As always, if you know anyone who is considering adopting a newborn, or a women experiencing a crisis pregnancy, please forward this newsletter to them, and give them our contact information. Women facing crisis pregnancies need a positive option that gives life and a future to their baby. Please share my personal cell number. I am available 24/7/365 to help pregnant women in crisis. My cell is 623.695.4112. Women can text or call me.
Again, I can’t tell you enough how grateful, how thankful I am that you care so deeply about saving and changing lives. Adoption truly is a beautiful miracle, and I am grateful we get to be a part of this lifesaving work together. Thank you for becoming a part of the miracle of adoption.
Saving and changing lives together.
All the best,

MEET Amanda
Amanda was adopted as a child. Then, she found herself pregnant and struggling with addiction. She courageously chose to give her unborn child the gift of life.
“I heard about Building Arizona Families through the Center for Hope, which is a rehabilitation center for pregnant women with substance abuse issues.
I chose a closed adoption, I think it is a very personal thing that the family can grow closer to their baby. I chose adoption because I am adopted and I think it is a wonderful gift to give a family.
Arizona Pregnancy Help is an amazing program. They help you with anything you need and they are very supportive. They are wonderful people with a great objective.”
We are so grateful that Amanda chose life for her baby. The adoptive family that opened their hearts and homes to Amanda’s baby is beyond blessed. And some day, Amanda’s baby will discover just how courageous Amanda is, and be so grateful for the gift of life, loving family, and a promising future.
This is exactly why we need to connect with women experiencing crisis pregnancies.
Just think – $107.14 might be all it takes to give a vulnerable baby
the same miraculous gift that Amanda’s baby received.
We really do need your help during this difficult time. Crisis pregnancies don’t slow down because there is a virus, or because it is hot outside. We can’t pause our efforts just because financial support slows down. We are so grateful you care about these life and death issues. Please give as generously as you can to help us reach as many pregnant women crisis as we can, and provide the beautiful, life giving miracle of adoption. Thank you – you make all the difference.

Is It Too Late to Choose Adoption?
Adoption is not an easy choice. Whether a woman experiencing a crisis pregnancy is addicted, homeless, already overwhelmed – whatever the reason women determine that they are not able to parent their unborn child, it is a courageous choice with a roller coaster of emotions. Kelly Rourke-Scarry, CEO and President of Building Arizona Families, tackles the question of “Is it too late to choose adoption?”, and describes some of the emotional journey the birth mother experiences as she makes life changing decisions for herself and her unborn child. As a compassionate person, you will want to tune in to listen to this podcast to understand just how momentous the adoption decision is.
