It looks at how well you can meet a child’s emotional, physical, and financial needs. The process includes submitting documents, talking in interviews, having a home inspection, and doing background checks.

The Process
Your adoption social worker will meet with you for at least four hours over at least two visits. At least two hours will take place in your home.
During this time, you will need to provide some important documents, such as:
- Court-issued birth certificates
- Court-issued marriage licenses and divorce decrees
- The previous year’s tax return
- Five letters of reference (two from family and three from friends)
- An Autobiography
- CPS clearance
- Fingerprint clearance
- Proof of adoption education
