Our committed staff works passionately to protect the best interest of Haitian children and our adoptive families.
Building Arizona Families Walks Alongside Your Family During Haiti Adoption Journey
Building Arizona Families is looking for adoptive families who are interested in adopting children five years old and older and sibling groups. We are also able to assist with kinship adoptions from Haiti. Another task is dossier preparation. It can sometimes seem daunting, but with our experience and expertise, we assist our families in the compilation of the many required documents.
Since 2005, we have been working alongside forever families when they choose to adopt a child from Haiti, and are one of just a handful of U.S. adoption agencies permitted to facilitate the adoption of Haitian children by the Haiti government. We have a hands-on connection to Haiti.
There are specific requirements adoptive families must meet, including two trips to Haiti. Learn more about Haiti adoption requirements, costs, and time frames HERE.
Your Initial Trip
After the Haitian government approves the referral of a child, the adoptive family travels to Haiti for two weeks for a socialization period with the adoptive child.
During the socialization period, adoptive families take time to begin building a loving relationship with their child. Every child experiences this time differently, but adoptive families treasure these moments as they anticipate bringing their child home forever.
Final Trip
The second trip is a final six-day bonding period before adoptive families bring their child home! At the end of the six days, the family is permitted to travel to the USA with their child. This bonding period helps the child begin the process of feeling safe and secure before traveling to their new home.
Feel Prepared and Confident Before Taking Initial and Final Haiti Trips
Adoptive families can prepare themselves beforehand to feel confident during these essential trips during the Haiti adoption process. At first, your child may be anxious, nervous, scared, or even confused. These are all very normal feelings to have during this time of change. Bonding with your child during your visits may feel more relaxed following these suggestions-
- Don’t rush it, let your child take the lead when spending time together, and listen to cues they are giving.
- Talk, read, and sing to your child as much as possible.
- Play simple games.
- Be sensitive and understanding of your child’s emotions and needs. Respect the way your child responds to this new experience.
