Are you wondering how to adopt an infant?  We can answer your questions because Building Arizona Families has been assisting adoptive families with infant adoption since 2004.  While the process may seem daunting at first, with the right guidance and resources, it can be a rewarding journey toward your lifelong dream of parenthood.

How to Adopt an Infant – A Basic Guide

Research and Choose an Adoption Agency:

The first step in the process of adopting an infant is to research and choose a reputable adoption agency. You will want a licensed adoption agency that specializes in infant adoptions and has a proven track record of success.  Building Arizona Families is licensed to facilitate Arizona infant adoptions for families, regardless of their state of residence.

Complete the Application Process:

Once you’ve chosen an adoption agency, you’ll need to complete the application process. This typically involves filling out forms, undergoing background checks, and providing references.

Home Study:

The next step in this how to adopt an infant guide is the home study process. Building Arizona Families provides this service. During the home study process, a professional adoption case manager will visit with you in your home to ensure that it’s a safe and suitable environment for a child. You’ll also undergo interviews and provide documentation about your background and lifestyle.

Matching:

After completing the home study, you’ll work with us to create a profile that will be shown to expectant parents considering adoption. The birth mother (or birth parents) will review profiles to determine which prospective adoptive family most closely matches their adoption placement criteria.

Placement:

Once you’ve been matched with a birth mother, you’ll work closely with the agency to prepare for the placement of your child.  After birth, the baby will come home with you.  After the formal termination of the birth parents’ parental rights, and after the baby has been in your home for six months if all has gone well, the social worker will submit a recommendation for adoption approval, and a judge will finalize the adoption by awarding legal custodial rights to the adoptive family.
